This course is packed with the basics and core features of the Unreal Engine.
An introductory session giving you an overview of the Unreal Engine and what it can be used to build before guiding you through the safe and simple downloading of the Unreal Engine, installation and setup including some troubleshooting of frequently asked questions.
Learn the basics of the Unreal Engine as we walk you through a brief tour of the operating interface and key tools you will use when building and playing the games you create. Learn more about the capabilities of the engine, the key tools you will need to use as you get started.
This session guides you through the assets (piece of content or objects) you will need to use and manipulate in your game design. We will show you how to access the assets you need, how to save them and then how to place, manipulate and adapt them in your game environments.
This session we move into the building phase of our game creation! We will guide you through how to set out your ‘maze’ level, how to build the walls and features you will need and start to explore and test your environment through your playable character.
This session we move the game on and develop interactive elements, placing doors in the game. We then guide you through some basic programming of these assets, allowing you to create opening and closing sliding doors, adding challenge into your game play.
Within this session we will move the interactive elements further on, introducing keys and the need for your characters to find and locate them in the maze. You will then learn to program the doors to only open once the character has found the right number of keys!
With the core maze and interactive elements now complete, we are moving your learning journey on to enhancing the look of the game. We will explore with you the range of lighting options and variety you can add to personalise your work, leading you through the rendering and building of the finished game level.
This session gives you a great introduction into the range of materials and textures you can add to the core assets you have already placed into your game. This will allow you to change the colour, look and effect of all the materials in your game and give you a great foundation for more complex materials work we are preparing in later sessions.
The final session in this foundation course guides you through the range of camera angles, lenses, filters and styles you can use when playing the game in first person mode. We will also show you how to take pictures in the game as the character, allowing you to share your fantastic work with friends and family!
